Liberty FC Participates in “Breaking Borders Tournament”

The Reno Tahoe Liberty ladies traveled this weekend to Sacramento to Participate in the 2nd Annual “Breaking Borders” Women’s Soccer tournament hosted by WPSL team Primero de Mayo.

The tournament counted with the Participation of Mexican Women’s Club Real Actopan from Actopan, Hidalgo, Mexico and was played in a two day round-robin format with Primero de Mayo playing vs. Real Actopan on Friday night with a final score of 9-2 in favor of the Primero de Mayo Ladies.

Saturday saw a double header played by the Liberty Ladies at Oneil Park at 10 am. vs. Primero de Mayo, ending with a score of 1-2 in favor of Primero de Mayo in which play was balanced between the two teams with the advantage this time around for the Primero de Mayo ladies.

The second match of the day played at 1:30 pm. only 1 hour after the first game ended, saw the Liberty Ladies vs. Real Actopan in a game that was played in 97F temperature.

The game proved to be a bit much for the Liberty ladies as they finished beyond exhaustion with the Actopan ladies controlling most of the possession and opportunities on the Liberty goal, Liberty’s keeper Lauren Sach proved to be invaluable on goal as she made several saves that prevented Real Actopan from getting on the score sheet. However, Reno Tahoe Liberty managed to come up with the win by score of 1-0, with the goal coming on the first half of the game by a 25 yard curved shot onto the top right hand corner by Ally Freitas. The Liberty Ladies finished the match with 10 players for the last 15 minutes of the game as a result of injuries but came back home with silverware nevertheless by finishing 2nd at the event.
